If you would like to have lunch with your child, remember to check in at the office, and bring photo identification! Parents must register with the office for all volunteer opportunities.
Homework: Parents are expected to help their child complete homework assignments on a regular basis. Doing so helps students get used to studying at home regularly.
Sight Words: Students will be learning a set of sight words through regular practice in the classroom. Exposing children to sight words helps them recognize them easier. Point sight words out whenever you can! The lists in your child's folder are meant to be broken down into chunks. Put them on flash cards and practice a few at a time. Try not to overwhelm your child or yourself when practicing sight words.
Read every day. If you are able, read at least once a day with your child. Be sure to provide print concepts such as: We read from left to right and go from top to bottom. Point to each word as you read, say what a period means, and read with expression. All of this will help your child become a successful reader.
The 7 Habits of Happy Kids:
We are growing leaders at Green Elementary School. Learning to be proactive, is one of the most important traits one can develop. You will hear lots of "Leader talk" each day, as your child learns all of the habits. If you would like to learn more about Stephen Covey's 7 Habits, please let me know. I would be happy to provide you with more information.
